This will be a continual post that I will add onto every week after each snippet post. There will be breaks in-between the snippets unless those snippets happen to go together. Cheers.
The last thing Gertrude saw was a tall iron gate in a flash of lightning that lit up the sky just as the rain began to pour.
Damon crinkled his eyebrows. "That doesn't make sense. How can someone just disappear from a vision?"
"Well, that makes two of us doesn't it." snapped Damarcus. "Now that I think about it, whenever she does disappear, if I remember correctly, the place where she was becomes blank. Like it never existed. Empty black space. So, what does that tell you?"
Damarcus was now standing with his hands on his hips. Damon shrugged. Damarcus sneered at him like he had known the answer all along.
"She still might be your soul mate."
Here's a special Christmas 2019 Sneak peak! Cheers!
"I need to wash my feet and I'm wet." Gertrude said beginning to scoot toward the edge of the bed. "Don't bother. Don't worry about it. Just rest. And be quiet." Damarcus grumbled out. Gertrude stopped moving feeling that slight edge of fear. She gently shook her head to rid her mind of it before pulling the blanket up and collapsing against the feather pillow. Scents of pine trees, ink, and some sort of musk wafted through her nostrils. Well, at least the smell isn’t unpleasant. Gertrude thought shutting her eyes.
"You stalked me! Again!" Damarcus bit out.
Kamal nodded his head.
"Mind your own business! Stalk Dante! He's your companion, not me." Damarcus yelled flinging his arms out.
Oh, but who would save you from your sisters wrath then?" Kamal asked with a toothy grin.
"What do you mean, Kamal?" Henrietta said in a much calmer tone.
"Casanova here isn't so forthcoming. He was literally only sleeping. Even wore pants to bed. He was so far onto the side of his bed, back to her," Kamal said gesturing toward Gertrude, "that I thought he would fall off."
"That doesn't explain why he was straddling her." Naomi pipped up.
"She screamed at me, woke me up, and started hitting me!" Damarcus yelled raking his hands through his hair. He really did not want to deal with this right now. He had finally been sleeping soundly and it was all getting ruined.
Happy New Year! Sneak Peak!
Trudy set her eyes on him, glaring. "You make it sound like I have been inducted into your family. We are merely helping each other. And stop snapping at me. I am not a child in need of discipline."
Damarcus raised an eyebrow, a mischievous twinkle in his eyes. "You look and act like a child."
Trudy slammed her palms on the table half standing up. "Well, if you weren't such a giant oaf perhaps normal people wouldn't seem so small to you!"
"Is that the best you can do?" Damarcus taunted.
SMACK! CRACK!
“What are you doing here Trudy?” he asked, trying to keep the impatience out of his voice. Trudy shuffled her feet a little, looking down. “I would like to think I know that, but I don’t. The library seemed too large to sit by myself and I didn’t want to impose on Naomi or the others.” Trudy trailed off not sure if she wanted to share the rest of her reason with him. “And you thought I was grand company?” Damarcus said dryly. Trudy closed her eyes, that nagging voice of realizing a bad idea setting in. “This was a mistake. Sorry to bother you. I’ll just go to my room.” She turned on her heel and began walking down the hall. Damarcus sighed, closing his eyes. The nagging pain in his heart heightened as she walked away. Damn soul magic! He thought before calling out.
Here we are my fans! My apologies again about last week. Please enjoy this extra long sneak peak!
Clearing her throat, she tried to change the subject. “So, what about this place is so special? Besides its amazing beauty.”
“You are beautiful.” He said picking up one of her hands and kissing her knuckles. “Since you like me, does this mean I can count this as our first date?”
She took her hand out of his, her face still blazing cherry. “I suppose that wouldn’t be a bad title. Though I don’t see why we have to label an outing.”
“Well if this is just an outing then I have nothing to look forward too. But, if this is our first date, then I get to look forward to more. Since you like me and all.”
He chuckled as she swatted at him. “I don’t see why liking you can make you so happy. Doesn’t mean much more.” She said huffing.
“It does.” He said. “I would like to think that it means I have a chance of becoming closer with you. On a much more intimate level.”
Trudy really blushed scarlet at this. Trying to retort to him, she found herself just blabbering nonsense. His full-bellied laugh got her to close her mouth.
“Relax. I won’t push you into something you don’t want to do. Though I am looking forward to the day when I can see if your kiss is as sweet as your smile.”
She covered her face. “If you make me blush anymore, I am going to turn into a cherry!” she exclaimed. “Can we just finish our sweets and cocoa?”
“Is there anything else you want to know about me?”
She was shaking her head vigorously. He held up a hand and they finished their treats in silence. When more cocoa was brought out, and her face didn’t feel like it was a million degrees, she spared a glance his way. Her eyes quickly reverted. He was looking at her. Longing was apparent in his eyes, but there was something else that she couldn’t quite place.
If all of our outings, or dates, are like this I might truly turn into a cherry. She thought, her hand feeling her cheeks.
“Your face isn’t red anymore. Did you want to stay longer?”
“I suppose we can. Wait, what are you doing?”
Damarcus smiled happily and then laid his head down on her lap. He didn’t reply to her. She couldn’t, and partially didn’t want to, move his head off her. She felt him grab her hand again and kiss the knuckles before holding it in one of his own. Unsure of what to do, she let herself rest back a bit on her free hand. Despite the initial awkwardness, and shock, she found she was relaxed. Trudy actually found she was enjoying herself.
She wasn’t sure when she laid herself down to rest her eyes. She wasn’t even sure why she didn’t ask Damarcus to take them back. But she did remember the gentleness of his arms as he scooped her up. The warmth of his breath as he pressed his forehead against hers. Then, it was morning and she was alone in her bed. For the first time she felt an ache in her heart. She knew that her fondness of him was growing and that scared her.
Friday January 31, 2020 sneak peak! Getting closer everyone. Stay tuned.
I wonder if I should. Would I be any good at it? Would it even help? Damarcus thought concerned that he would even think of using a magic he tried to forget. He hadn’t even completed training. Still, he didn’t want Trudy to be in so much pain. She couldn’t even think straight.
Here goes nothing.
Closing his eyes, he focused on reaching out unseen threads, letting them wind around Trudy. Grunting at the strain, he then focused on sucking the energy, the pain, away from Trudy and absorbing it into himself. His eyes filled with more tears. He could feel his body begin to shake. He started choking on sobs as they steadily began to rack his body. His grip loosened. His legs gave out. The connection was broken.
“Damarcus, what happened? What did you do? Are you alright?” Trudy said kneeling down next to him.
This time he shook his head, not saying anything.
“Whatever you did, thank you. I still hurt. I still feel some pain, but I think I might be able to begin processing it now. Are you going to be alright?”
Damarcus shook his head more moving to lay his head on her lap wrapping his arms around her waist. He held her tight. He tried to focus as much as he could stand to keep this misery to himself and not give it back to her. His efforts paid off because he soon found himself drifting away into unconsciousness.
