So, this is just broadening the knowledge about how people get around. People that aren't in the Volkenheim family. I'll be expanding on some other magics as well as collecting together other mundane magics that fall under similar categories so y'all can get a clearer picture of how magic functions on a day-to-day level. Hope you enjoy!
Oh, one last side not, as next week is spring break for my girls, there will be no post. Happy Easter! Cheers!
A Broader Sense of Magical Transportation
As was mentioned during the few post related to transportation – which were Damon’s main post and then the more in depth one- transportation via magic can be quite taxing.
Damon, being a Master Transporter, can easily use multiple forms of magical transportation without fear of collapsing form overexertion. However, for the mass populace, this is not the case. While it seems fun to think that brooms are a form of magical transportation – they can be- most people do not use that form of travel.
The main means of magical transportation comes in the form of teleportation: Vanishing from one point to reappear at the desired destination. Most times, so long as the distance is not too great, even those with menial magical capabilities can utilize this way of transport. However, there are a few rules that should be followed as well as cautions to those who get a little…overzealous.
The rules for basic teleporting are as follows:
1. No person under the age of 15 can teleport by themselves.
2. No person under the age of 25 may do a side-along teleport.
The cautions for teleporting are as follows:
1. It is advised to not use teleporting for basic moving about a city.
a. It is harder for one to realize how quickly their magic is draining when used in such rapid succession and most are not properly trained in how to sense their magical levels.
2. It is advised to not use teleporting for movement within one’s home unless under duress.
a. This is to make sure that people do not become lazy and complacent, along with the prior precaution of not depleting their magic faster than necessary.
3. It is advised to not use teleporting between cities more than a day’s ride – or more than twenty miles - away: use specified teleport jump spots.
a. There are designated ‘rest’ spots in-between cities as it was discovered long ago that the mass populace cannot complete a full jump between cities. There are two outcomes for those who try to complete a city-to-city jump:
i. They wind up in an overuse of magic coma for at least a week while their magic replenishes itself.
ii. They die upon reappearing.
It was mentioned prior that transportation via broom or other inanimate object can be utilized, but it tends to take more magic to do these as your magic needs to be able to flow into the object to make it float/move. Since most people have limited magical capacity, this makes it difficult to use such means of transportation, so teleportation is the norm.
