First, my apologies about last week and the lack of post. I'm working on a better way of keeping up with all my work. Sure, I have a calendar in my phone but I've been more of a paper/pen kind of gal so I need hard copies of calendars. That way I can see it all the time. No more excuses. Onward!
This introduction was meant for last week but we shall work with how the ball is rolling. For anyone who's read previous bio posts and read the Volkenheim books, knows there was another brother, a fifth brother. However, that brother did not survive past his 18th birthday. His name was Dedric Volkenheim.
When I was first creating the world of the Volkenheim brothers, I needed a catalyst. Something that would propel the original three you meet in the first book, on their path and away from the power-crazed father. Though it seems harsh, death is a motivator and that is how I worked it. Dedric was the smallest and the quietest, most reserved, of the brothers. Damon was known as the mediator, but it was Dedric that all the brothers knew they could rely on and, fact is, there was never a doubt in any of the brothers mind of traitorous intentions from him as there were with Damarcus.
Dedric might be what you call a secret-keeper. Not in a nefarious way but in a way that kept the peace. Unfortunately, this caused Dedric to become the target of their father for all of Damarcus's transgressions which, in turn, caused tension between the brothers. Dedric never faulted Damarcus as Dedric knew what their father was, but he was unable to voice this. Not because of any magic, but because Dedric knew his brothers weren't ready to face their father head on and win.
Dedric never planned on dying, though no one does. Since he wasn't prepared for his early departure, he neglected to give at least one of his brothers the location of his stashed journals. The journals which will be the subject of next weeks blog.
How were they found?
After the brothers (along with some council help) defeated Victor Volkenheim, they sporadically went back and scoured their ancestral home. As Victor was an old and powerful person, they wanted to make sure they didn't leave any harmful materials behind. That, and they were also looking for anything useful to add to their collection. The Volkenheim family has always been a collector of magical items and knowledge.
It was during this search, and in the true absence of their father, that Dedric's journals revealed themselves. A fun bit of magic- but I'll leave that mystery for next week. Dedric may have been young, but he was among the most intellectual of the brothers. Hoping you are looking forward to this future blog as I am.
Cheers, readers!
