While only briefly mentioned, Dedric had a large part to play in the lives of his brothers. As a part of the quintet, he was the smallest and the most mild-mannered. However, he was one of the first brothers know what his magic was going to be, but, even though he was mild-mannered did not make his stupid. Dedric could sense the malice of his father, and so hid his magic from him. Which is why Damarcus became the first brother to become the target of their father.
Curious? I bet you are. Dedric is a double primary magic user. He is Empath/Healer. The Empath part of his power has similarities to Henrietta and her projection magic, however, Dedric's power was more focused on feeling out the others pain which would then increase his ability to heal properly.
Being a dual-wielder of primary magic was incredibly rare. Even more so for Dedric because his Empath powers came with the secondary power or awakened power of a fully realized Empath: Seeing Eyes. Even though Empath's are able to feel others emotions, if one is aware that they are in the presence of an Empath, they can mask their emotions. Having the Seeing Eyes allows Dedric to not be hindered by this. Which is part of the reason Dedric knew how evil their father was. No matter what kind of mask or how well Victor Volkenheim pulled off his caring emotions, Dedric could see through it.
However, being a dual wielder of magic such as this comes with a (and I will say this bluntly) crappy side-effect. It makes Dedric very vulnerable. Both in physical prowess and the ability to do other magic beside that which is associated with his healer powers.
Understanding this, Dedric became a silent crime-fighter. Knowing he could not confront his father, nor tell his brothers of his gift, he opted to try and help keep the peace. To keep his brothers together, which, unfortunately, he was not able to do. Dedric had to watch, pretty much helplessly, as their father tried to mold Damarcus to his ways. He then watched Damarcus fall into despair. Dedric tried to use his powers as an Empath, but there was only so much he could do without alerting their father.
Dedric tried countless times to try and get his other brothers to open their eyes and see what was going on, but Dante and Dartanian were extremely bullheaded and Damon was the peacekeeper between them and Damarcus. Dedric had almost succeeded in getting Damon to understand Damarcus, but then the accidents began to happen. Dedric tried to remain positive and keep Damarcus's spirits up, but when Damarcus came round, Dedric knew it was over because it wasn't Damarcus anymore, it was their father.
Dedric had no idea where their father had stashed Damarcus, but he knew he was alive. He could feel it. This was when Dedric began concocting his own plan. He had been keeping secret journals and notes his whole life. And, after outlining and sealing them away for his brothers to find later (should the inevitable happen) he made the bold decision to tell Dante, Dartanian and Damon what was going on.
It was just too late. Dedric had been so set in how he acted that, when he began to craft this plan, he didn't realize his behavior was so different. Victor did. Dedric never got the chance to tell his brothers anything. Disguised at Damarcus, Victor killed his son Dedric.
Dedric's journals and notes were lost.
