Henrietta is the main heroine of the story and goes through some dynamic changes. She is actually the child of a parents brought together by Soul Magic which is highly unusual. It is unusual in the way that she finds her Soul Mate.
So, Henrietta is (brace for it) only 5'5", which compared to Dante and his 7'1" frame, she is rather tiny. I like this difference though because it helps to force her (in a way) to interact with Dante in a different way than she would with others. She has waist length, curly (fiery) red hair and I did get inspiration for her appearance from the movie Brave. She absolutely hates dresses, which causes funny issues. But, she does start to wear them more frequently because Dante likes it. Also, Dante helped her create dresses that are easier to get into (which I didn't mention in the book).
Henrietta never knew her father, as he was killed soon after her mother and him were married. She spent the first ten years of her life on the run with her mother from her mother's ex-husband. The ex-husband ultimately caught up and her mother sacrificed herself to save Henrietta. Her mother used a certain magic that drained the life of the attacker and the castor.
She is very much a believer in love and is rather well-spoken and proper. This is hard to tell at first because Henrietta's first 'love', Nicholas, had cast a spell on her without her knowing which was slowly changing how she acted and what she believed in. Amelia was able to successfully take off the ring that was the source of the spell and then readers can begin to see the true Henrietta.
It was because of this that there were hot and cold moments between Dante and Henrietta. It was hard for Dante because he thought Henrietta didn't believe in Soul Magic, but she did. She had grown up hearing the stories of her mother and fathers brief time together. So, once that magic ring spell was removed, she was able to explain this to Dante and take that step further in their relationship.
Henrietta, though she has been raised to be 'proper' and respectful, is actually quite a hot-headed lass. Her mother helped her to rein it in a little, but it does spark out sometimes. This is good and bad. When she does let her emotions overwhelm her, she loses her grip on her magical abilities, which is why she was rather ineffective during the final battle between father and sons.
Henrietta, by today's views, would be considered an Empath. She has empathetic abilities but it is a bit more elaborate than just that. Not only can she relate on an emotional level to others, but she has the ability to feel out others magic, which is how she knew Kamal was not just a human. I titled her magic 'Projection/tuning' magic because, besides the prior mentioned ability, she also has the ability project feelings onto others. She shows this ability after Dante has shown her his scars and she wants him to understand that she is not going anywhere. To an extent, this ability can be utilized for nefarious purposes, but Henrietta has not used it like that before.
I didn't really explain what her training entailed, but in the world of Volkenheim, the size and strength of the magic user adds to their limit breaks. So, during her training, Henrietta was working on getting stronger in a physical and mental sense as she could not permanently alter her height. (That type of magic is a no-go in my universe with the exception of Pain Bearers). One can periodically alter themselves, height and appearance wise, but it is not permanent thing. This is to keep the power levels of people to a manageable level.
After just a year with Dante and the others, Henrietta is able to effectively project feelings to multiple people. While this number is still under ten, it makes her more formidable and useful in dire circumstances. Unless she loses her cool and lets her emotions take over.
