Before delving into the good stuff, I just wanted to apologize to my readers. I know I said I was going to start posting weekly again, and, yup, just didn't happen. So, I apologize. Here's to getting back into the groove. Cheers!
Onto the info you want. LOL
I believe it was last week... might have been the week before, but I finally finished a full rough draft of my third novel: Orchids. For those of you who have been following my blog, I'm sure I mentioned that I've started Orchids three different times, so I had quite the task working to combine the first few chapters together into what I really wanted for this story.
It all worked out and after that, I was transferring from paper to digital. As I was working through the story, I had to keep reminding myself to push through and not stop and re-work my story line which already has some kinks that need to be worked through. I did it though, and I felt very satisfied. The ending works to tie in nicely with my Volkenheim stories like I'd planned it to since about last year. LOL.
In case anyone is wondering, think of my Universe like a tree. The Volkenheim novels are the base and main trunk. All my other stories are the branches. So, if you only ever read the Volkenheim novels, you should be okay but all the other novels do tie in with them while giving mad amounts of background information on those characters and that world. All of which becomes important at the very end, but I"m not concerned about that now. Bottom line is, like I said, if you only ever read the Volkenheim novels, I will put enough information in them to keep you in the loop about what's happening all the way up until the end at book... I think it'll be 25. That all depends on how long of a series I need my Demon realm to be. (Don't worry, there will be plenty of posts on that, but it'll be later. I'm not there yet! )
Sidetracked again, darn it!
So, Orchids is complete but I have kinks and I figured out how to work them through pretty quickly which, to me, means that I wrote the story the way it was meant to be written. It's not as long as my first two novels, not yet, but after all these edits and the new information that I'll have to put in, it should be closer to if not longer than my first two novels.
I'm working to keep my novels all around the same length. I think it helps to drive the story more if the reader doesn't have to try and recall so much information all at once.
Now, I know people have probably gathered I'm a hopeless romantic, but Orchids is way different. It deals with Dragons and while I like the idea of the mushy mate stuff, I decided to make mine more...horrifying. That's not quite the word I'd like to use but it's close enough. My Dragons rely on their primal and animal nature to find their mates, so when they do claim them, it's not this pretty scene. There is blood and scars because of it. I like this a bit more though because I think it rings a bit more true to Dragon nature. At least the way I want my Dragons to be.
Please don't mistake this as they are going to be inherent a**holes. They have a softer side and they genuinely care for their mates. However, since they are first and foremost animals, they are ridiculously possessive, aggressive, and dominant.
I think that's all for now. I've rattled on for some time. LOL. I'll be back next week (I'll set a reminder) with a new post.
Cheers!
