Exploring Dragons

I've probably mentioned this previously, but I'm looking at writing this third novel with a bit more blood and gore to put it bluntly. I know there are stories out there where the Dragons aren't so savage, and while I find myself enjoying those stories, I find it doesn't fit for this novel. I want my Dragons to be slightly more realistic, at least pertaining to what I know of Dragons from folklore and mythology. I, obviously, put my own spin on it as my Dragons have human mates and succumb to human emotions, but that doesn't mean I can't still have them be carnal.

So, this novel is not going to be the happy, romantic spin like my first two novels were. In the world of Orchids, there are not only Dragons, but Orcs as well. Dragons and Orcs don't get along. Bloodshed, in this world, is a part of everyday life. The only thing that keeps the three races - human, Orc, and Dragon- together, are their fragile trading pacts. I say fragile because the dislike between all three races causes those trading pacts to fall through a lot.

Moving on. Haha.

Lord Ethan and King Rayne (he prefers to be called Lord Rayne, though) are my main Dragon duo and the rarest type of Dragons. Not only do are they part of the royal bloodline, they are twins (which is unheard of in Dragon culture) and they both wound up with human mates. This was foretold and it didn't make them happy as they thoroughly detest humans, which makes for good drama in the novel. Both Dragons are gruff and hot-tempered and very, very possessive. As such, they tend to create a lot of bloodshed where it could have been avoided.

The Dragons of Orchids are, by far, overly possessive and aggressive, but I prefer them that way. When I think of Dragons, strength, is the word that comes to my mind. I take into consideration that Dragons are innate magical beings, so they would think themselves superior which would also make them arrogant. (Don't get too disheartened by this, I'm sure you reader will love these Dragons anyway.) However, all of these, what might be seen as 'annoying' qualities that no woman would want in a partner, is what makes them capable to do the things they do. While the Dragons do possess emotion, they are not as driven by them as Humans - except for when they find their mate. All bets are off at that point. Think of it like putting blinders on. They see the goal and nothing else and whatever gets in their way will be eliminated.

Still, as horrific or unexciting or cliche as they sounds, I found the whole of the story to be quite good. If you enjoyed my first two books, then you''ll be able to enjoy Orchids, even though it's not on the romantic scale of my other works.

Thanks for reading, and I shall be back (hopefully next week) with some more tidbits on Orchids.

Cheers!
